Accidents and personal injury from falling objects

Accidents at work, which result in personal injury, can occur when materials, equipment or storage items have not been stacked properly and subsequently fall onto workers. Depending on the type of work undertaken, some work places carry a greater potential for accidents of this kind. (eg warehouses, construction sites, lock ups, supermarkets). However, all working environments carry some risk of accidents and personal injury. Employers have a duty to take steps to protect workers against personal injury from falling objects. The majority of the legislation covering this type of risk is contained in The Work at Height Regulations 2005.

Accidents and personal injury can occur when objects forcibly escape from machinery or where objects fall as a result of badly maintained premises. Where accidents occur at work, a claim for personal injury compensation can be made either against the employer or the occupier of the building.
