Norovirus outbreak on board the Boudicca

An serious outbreak of sickness and Norovirus has taken place on board the Boudicca Cruise Ship, which was forced to  return to Liverpool two days early.

The Fred Olsen liner, Boudicca left Liverpool on 6th April for a cruise to Turkey and the Eastern Mediterranean, but by the third week of the cruise, at least a third of the passengers were ill with Norovirus, vomiting and diarrhoea.

The Boudicca had to return to Liverpool two days early so that the ship could be deep-cleaned before its next cruise. Fred Olsen claim around 28% of the ship´s 1,066 were affected during the cruise on board the Boudicca, although numbers are now thought to be much higher.

This is the sixth outbreak  of Norovirus on board the Boudicca  in six months, and there have been calls for a full investigation as to why the ship is continually plagued with illness.

A statement from Fred Olsen said:"Fred Olsen takes the welfare of all its passengers and crew very seriously, and any illness on board is of great concern to us. Every reasonable precaution is taken to prevent any gastro-type virus from coming on board.

"There are constant reminders to everyone on board to pay particular attention to personal hygiene - but the effectiveness of all these messages is only as good as the co-operation of the people concerned."

All passengers on board the Boudicca have been given £100 each to spend on board, and will be compensated for the two days lost at sea, according to Fred Olsen.

Boudicca update: More complaints of illness on board the Boudicca have just been reported, and it is claimed that over 800 people were affected by illness on board the ship.

Norovirus has affected six of Boudicca´s cruises since October, 2009, and this particular illness can cause severe vomiting and diarrhoea, which spreads quickly in relatively confined spaces such as on board cruise liners and in holiday package hotels.

If you have suffered Norovirus or any type of gastro illness on board the Boudicca Cruise Ship or on board any other cruise ship or in a holiday hotel, Farnworth Rose can help you claim compensation for loss of enjoyment of your holiday, pain, suffering and medical expenses.
