Hotel accidents under the spotlight

Over the past 5 years, hotel workers in Northampton have suffered more injuries from slipping and tripping than from any other cause. According to a spokesman from the borough council, these were all injuries which could have been avoided. A conference in Northampton was held to highlight avoidable accidents in the hotel industry, and people from across the industry were involved.
Health and Safety Executive involved

Representatives from the hotel industry,including the  Health and safety executives, county trading standards, fire and rescue, Northampton Enterprise and local authorities discussed issues of awareness.

Julian Wilks, Northampton´s senior environmental officer said:"The aim is to assist in reducing accidents by giving advice on how to comply with current legal priorities". The knock on effect of all this should result in a reduction in the number of inspections or visits required to hotels and bed and breakfast establishments, as they will be complying with all the legislation. This is a wonderful example of organisations working in partnership to achieve a common goal – to help reduce accidents.
