Illness at the Riu Bachata hotel Dominican Republic

Holidaymakers have complained of vomiting, diarrhoea and severe stomach ache after staying at the Riu Bachata Hotel and they suspect this was caused as a result of eating contaminated food at the hotel.

A British couple were staying at the Riu Bachata Hotel to get married, but the bridegroom ended up in hospital for three days, including his wedding day. Other members of the wedding party, including the bride, were struck down with the sickness and some were still ill when they returned to the UK.

The bridegroom said: "When I came out of hospital I was scared to eat the food which all tasted the same anyway. There is no way it should be classed as 5 star and wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy."
Comprising of Club Hotel Riu Merengue, Club Hotel Riu Bachata and Club Hotel Riu Mambo, the Riu resort has experienced problems since 2005 and many reports of food poisoning. Guests can use facilities at every one of the hotels in the group, and accommodation is provided on an all-inclusive basis.
